Data Retention Policy
How long we keep your information after you delete something.

| A single pet | Recoverable for 30 days, then permanently removed. See Restoring a Deleted Pet. |
| Your entire account | Pet records kept 30 days in case of a change of mind, then permanently removed. See Deleting Your Account. |
| A single photo | Removed immediately, no recovery window. |
| A vet visit record | Removed immediately, no recovery window. |
| A message you sent | Message history isn't user-deletable today; it persists as part of the conversation. |
| A dismissed/resolved report or flag | Kept as part of our permanent moderation history for accountability. |
Why some things have a recovery window and others don't
Deleting a whole pet or account is a bigger, often accidental action — the 30-day window exists specifically to protect against mistakes. Removing a single photo or vet visit entry is a smaller, more deliberate edit, so it takes effect immediately.
Backups
Separately from account-level deletion, XKD.org maintains periodic database backups for disaster-recovery purposes — these aren't a way to recover something you personally deleted, they exist to protect the platform as a whole against technical failures.
